Born in the year 1883 in Geelong Victoria, Australia, John, was 32 years and 8 months old, was a labourer at the time he enlisted on the 9th November 1914. His next of kin was his sister, C. (Maggie) Howard of Green Street, Richmond, Victoria. His father and mother were: John Diamond and Ann Ferris.
John was in the care of Frank Millett of Sunbury when he enlisted.
He was assigned to the 9th Light Horse Regiment, 3rd Reinforcement, 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance.

In December 1916, the 9th Light Horse Regiment took part in a bayonet attack during the battle of Magdhaba, and another in the battle of Rafa in January 1917.
After a two year service in Egypt, with several transfers and ill health, John returned to Australia 28 December 1917.
John Diamond died 1940 Reg 21888 age 63 Mooroopna. His brother, Francis Joseph Diamond (aged 70 years), died in 1954 Yarrawonga, Victoria.
John Diamond was awarded three medals: the Star Medal, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal.
